Two Seattle homes are among the world’s first to achieve ‘Zero Energy Certification
Two Seattle homes by Dwell Development have achieved a “Zero Energy” certification, being the seventh and eighth homes in the world to achieve this certification!
The homes have names (because, duh, they be special), Emerald Star and Cork Haus, and both have combined cutting-edge green technology, renewables, and reclaimed materials that meet the requirements developed by Built Green.
The Zero Energy certification is recognized worldwide as one of the highest aspirations in energy performance in the built environment. It’s certified through the International Living Future’s Institutesthat was created to allow projects to demonstrate zero energy performance.
Emerald Star was the second home in Seattle and tenth worldwide, and Cork Haus was the third in Seattle and eleventh worldwide to receive the certification.
Here’s how to International Living Future’s Institutes gives out the certification:
- certifies that the building is truly operating as claimed, harnessing energy from the sun, wind or earth to produce net annual energy demand through a third-party audit of actual performance data
- provides a case study platform for your project to inform and accelerate other zero energy efforts throughout the world
- celebrates a significant accomplishment, and differentiates both the building and those responsible for its success in this quickly evolving market
