Three new green-certified homes are coming to Columbia City and the Central District.

Builder Dwell Development said the three single-family homes will be 5-Star Built Green certified and come ready with an innovative package of green features, including energy efficient water and heating systems, high-performance windows, natural and reclaimed materials, and solar-ready rooftops.

This combined suite of green features gives each home the ability to reach net-zero energy use with the addition of solar panels. Each home features a modern architectural layout, unique reclaimed wood siding, and rooftop decks with territorial views – all of which are setting a high standard for urban development in the Puget Sound.

Dwell Development is not only creating more housing for the city of Seattle but green housing that helps decrease carbon footprints that stem from daily life. Inside the home, the built-in energy efficient systems reduce energy needs for heating, cooking, and laundry. In addition, the homes are located in urban neighborhoods with high walk scores and easy access to public transit, diverse retail and entertainment areas, and local parks, thereby reducing the need for a car.

The Seattle green builder also saved and restored the homes on the parcels as opposed to demolishing the existing structures. Dwell Development chose to preserve the historic value of the original structures to celebrate the homes as they contribute to the architectural heritage of Seattle neighborhoods.

With the addition of these three homes, the Seattle-based builder continues to lead the pack for sustainable urban development in walkable neighborhoods and hopes to inspire other builders to do the same.

All three homes will be completed in late spring 2018. They will be for sale once complete.
