Dwell Development Receives 2020 Housing Innovation Award for their Wallingford Positive Energy Home project from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Dwell’s Wallingford Positive Energy Home wins DOE’s prestigious Housing Innovation Award, which recognizes the nation’s leading innovators in zero energy building.

Dwell Development was announced a U.S Department of Energy 2020 Housing Innovation Award Winner in the Custom Spec category. The DOE Housing Innovation Awards celebrate the nation’s very best in zero energy ready home innovation and honor forward-thinking builders at the cutting edge of home energy savings, comfort, health and durability.

Dwell Development’s Wallingford Positive Energy Home was selected by an elite panel of national building industry experts. The positive energy home is located in a highly walkable location near the heart of Wallingford. The 5-Star Built Green home features a free-flowing open floor plan filled with natural light, airy living spaces, and seamless indoor/outdoor living with sweeping views.

The home’s design includes an array of reclaimed, local, and recycled materials and features an innovative combination of green building techniques and systems including rooftop solar panels, airtight building envelope, high performance windows, thick walls packed with insulation, high efficiency heating, and solar thermal technology for hot water.

Judges scored each application based on various criteria, including energy performance metrics, land development, design, quality construction, sales and marketing, consumer education, and business metrics. Wallingford Positive Energy Home is Dwell Development’s fifth home honored with a DOE Housing Innovation Award and one the world’s only positive energy homes.
